Fused Silica properties include good thermal shock resistance, a thermal expansion coefficient close to zero and excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures, making Fused Silica refractory components particularly useful for very demanding applications. Additional properties include chemical stability and low electrical conductivity; although it should be noted that due to its physical structure use at temperatures exceeding 1000ºC is not possible for cyclic applications. Despite this, the material performs well in the refractory environment, often being used in components such as firing supports, ignition crucibles ancell nameishes.

Applications
Foundry Services’ fused silica is an excellent choice for kiln furniture and thermal shock intensivcell namenvironments up to 2400ºF. Typical applications include transfer ladles for high alloy steel (it can be used in place of HYcor Alumina ladles without the need for a steel backing shell), molten aluminum riser tubes and stopper rods, molten metal troughs, and a variety of structural molten metal contact parts. Feel free to contact Foundry Service & Supplies to discuss compatibility of fused silica in your most demanding high temperature applications.
